Convergent thinking vs Divergent thinking

In this class, I was taught that there are 2 methods of creative thinking: Divergent thinking and Convergent thinking. We could observe creativity as a procedure of divergent thinking followed by convergent thinking.

Divergent thinking resembling to the word “divergent” is to think of a problem differently, mostly by thinking “…yes, and… ” or making brain storm. By this method, we could expand our field of thinking and thus broaden our vision just like a concave lens.

While convergent thinking resembling to the word “converge” is to think of a question and attacking it in one chosen way , mostly by thinking “…no, but… “. It can also explain by, information + possibilities = solution. Thus, it will narrow our ideas like convex lens. Unlike Divergent thinking, solution can be made more precisely by using this method.

Mind map was found by a man name Tony Buzan. A good mind map is to note down your information in short words and most preferably keywords only. Attractive colors will also enhance the writer or reader to remember the information in the mind map.
Logical mind maps are words written that are directly related to the main object
Associated mind map can generate random words that the conclusion appeared seems to be not related to the main object.

Stereotypes are people who think of problems in a traditional way and never think out of the box. For example, stereotype person will think that men are not suitable for taking flowers as accessories. But who cares? Now is the 21st century, people have the rights on choosing their clothing. Another example i hate the most is: stereotype person tend to think that girls must wear skirt. Oh hello~! Do you know how annoying to wear a skirt? And worst come to worst is, most senior citizens or parents are stereotype...

The importance of creativity and innovation in modern society

Pupils who are encouraged to think creatively and independently become:

more interested in discovering things for themselves
more open to new ideas
keen to work with others to explore ideas
willing to work beyond lesson time when pursuing an idea or vision.
As a result, their pace of learning, levels of achievement and self-esteem increase

Innovation is the commercialisation of inventions and about economically valuable novelty. It is about new products, processes and services and all the scientific, technological, organisational, financial and business activities that produce them.

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention (week 3)

These are what I learned this week...

Novelty
-quality of something new

Creativity
-making new ideas and combining ideas in an unique way
-There are 4 different types of creativity, that is aesthetic organizer, boundary pushers, inventors and the boundary breaker--the rarest.

Innovation
-process of improving ideas that been created and transform into object or service that people are willing to pay

Invention
-extend the boundaries of human knowledge or experiance

In my opinion, they depend on each other. To invent something, we must be creative to create new ideas, but on the same time we must have the innovation to improve the ideasand increase the novelty.

Editing Photo

This is Tang Lee Yin, the first impression she gave me is a very quiet and indoor person. She told me she love white colour especially a plant call white clover. This is really obvious for mostly her things were white in colour.

But on the other hand, she love swimming and was really good in it. This actually surprised me a little for I thought she dislikes sports.

Thus, I edited her photo based on my deepest impression about her. On the right hand side, she was in a white clover field while on the left hand side, she is sitting beside a swimming pool.

Applying Creativeness~~

And of course, being creative or thinking problems from different angels does not mean you to make your maths teacher angry as below...

But it means that we can apply creativity anywhere for example...

Mistakes are the mother of success

Today's class was discussing about looking at different angles and ways to solve a problem.

In this class I found something quite interesting --

"Although it is not wrong to be a purist, but being a purist will not explore new ideas."
This means that we do not need to follow directions step-by-step. It's not meant to be rebellious or anything, but it meant to do some exploration and find out your own personal way to solve a question.

Another interesting quote I learnt in this class is a quote by Sir Ken Robinson --

"If you're not ready to be wrong, you would not have an original".
Yes, in the past thousand years, who would even think that a machine could fly people in the sky? But the Wright Brothers successfully invented it. This is because they dare to imagine what common people would never think of. Ready to be wrong and the determination on their imaginations. And alas, in December 1903 they succesfully fly the plane in the sky after nine months of hardwork.

Don't Think With Your Brain????

In the first class, teacher mainly did some introduction about the subject.

What I learned from this lesson is just throw out whatever idea you have no matter how hilarious it is. Better not to think with your brain or else you will never think out of the box.
We must also not solve a problem in one direction. Try out other ways or discover new ways to overcome it.

Like the name of the course "Creative Study", I hope that this class will make me more creative in thinking ways to solve problems and I hope to learn how to think out of the box.

Hello guys~

Geez... I am really not good at this.

According to teacher, every student must get their own blogspot to note down what they gain from class every week, so here I am...

I visited a few blogs written by others and they were all so creative in decorating and rearranging their notes and pictures.

I found out that some keywords are written in big BOLD and have different color in order to attract readers attention. While the content are written as tiny as possible. This is the basic knowledge to represent a layout that is easy for the viewers eye. It is also a creative way that could lead the viewer's eye to absorb the information given out.

For example:

Lastly, I hope I could manage this blog well!
